About Us

People's Express is a low cost Public Transportation organization, operating in Washtenaw County.  Our vehicles are equipped with lifts, offering individuals with wheelchairs access to our services.  We use "I Speak Cards", enabling non-English speaking residents or visitors to successfully use our services.

History

Incorporated in 1991, Northfield Human Services was formed to address the human service needs of Northfield Township.  Under the direction of a number of dedicated individuals and with local business, club, and private citizen support, the organization initially sought to address the transportation needs of low income individuals within our community.  As a result of these efforts, People's Express (PEX) transportation service was launched with only one bus and one driver.  Today PEX has over 23 Buses, Vans, and Sedans and more than 12 dedicated drivers.

A coordination center that provides individuals with information and referrals on available transportation options. This information is based on their travel needs in Washtenaw County and selected areas in Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne Counties

City of South Lyon

The City of South Lyon subsidizes the cost of transit services for residents of the City of South Lyon through People’s Express.  Residents of the city may travel anywhere within the city for a small charge.  Travel can also be arranged to travel to Providence Hospital in Novi, for a small charge. 

City of Saline

The City of Saline subsidizes the cost of transit services for the residents of the City of Saline through People’s Express. Residents of Saline may travel within the City of Saline and to certain destinations in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti for a small charge.. 

Charter Township of Lyon

Lyon Township subsidizes the cost of transit services for its residents through People's Express. Transportation  for travel within the Township, to Providence Hospital in Novi and to the City of South Lyon can be arranged for a small charge.

Northfield Human Services

Whitmore Lake area Food Pantry is located in the same building as People's Express.

Pantry days open for food distribution: Monday and Tuesday (weekly) 11:00 AM-5:00.
